How to make Hashbrowns

Hashbrowns is a popular American breakfast food that is fast and easy to make for even the worst of cooks. It is also perfect for those who love the crispiness of fried potatoes. The word “hash” in hashbrowns is derived from a french word hacher meaning “to hack” or “to chop”. Therefore the word hashbrowns can literally translate to “chopped and fried potatoes”.

Ingredients

  • 2 medium or 4 small potatoes
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Spices of choice (optional)

Serving quantity: 3 hashbrowns

Procedure

  • Peel and cut potatoes into big cubes, throw them into a pot of water with salt and par boil for 10 minutes until 80% cooked.
  • Shred or grate the potatoes into a bowl, add egg, cornstarch and spices, and mix well.
  • Form a hashbrown shape (flattened oval) and freeze for at least an hour.
  • Pour oil into a pan, and when hot, add the hashbrowns and fry.
  • Sieve oil out before eating.
