Paratha bread is a bread made with all purpose flour, whole wheat flour or a mixture of both. Paratha bread is a fresh handmade bread that is buttery and flaky, with tender inner layers and crisp outer layers that will shatter as you tear from it. It is smeared with ghee or butter or vegetable oil, layered, and rolled by hand or a rolling pin ,and creates a distinct taste and texture. Paratha bread is common through out South Asia, they can be simple and rolled out into variety of shapes and stuffed or filled like aloo paratha.

Ingredients

  • 400ml water
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda or 10grams
  • 4 1/2 cup flour or 450g
  • 200grams melted butter
  • 1 tea glass of oil
  • 1tsp salt

Procedure

To make this flaky and chewy paratha bread, follow the steps below:

In a bowl, mix water, baking soda and flour. Knead for 3-4 minutes to get a medium soft dough. Cover and allow to rest for 10mins.

Afterwards, knead dough again and divide into 7 or 8 parts, cover and allow it to rest for 15mins.

Rollout into 35cm, mix butter and oil then brush on the rolled out dough.

Shape the rolled out dough with a cutter.

Shape into this, cover and let it sit in the refrigerator for 1hr.

Bring it out of the refrigerator, sprinkle some flour on work table and roll it out to 25cm and set aside.

Heat the pan on medium heat and let it cook on both sides and turning it constantly.

When both side are well browned, take it out of the pan and serve with mutton handi or any soup of choice.
