Mixed nuts and sesame seed candy is a twist of the original groundnut candy popularly known as hallaka kwabo or balla kwabo in the Nothern part of Nigeria. It is a mixture of nuts (almonds, groundnuts, hazel nuts and walnuts) and sesame seeds. Caramelized sugar and a little flavor to boost the flavors of the nuts and give it that sweet and caramel taste and texture. Mixed nuts and sesame seed candy is the perfect dessert for every occasion.

Ingredient

  • 3 cups groundnut, almonds, walnuts and hazel nuts
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds
  • 21/2 cups sugar or to taste
  • 1/3 tsp each of chocolate, butterscotch and vanilla flavors
  • butter or oil

Procedure

To make this sweet mixed nuts and sesame seed candy dessert, follow the short steps below;

  • Clean and peel off the seed coat of the nuts. Toast them under low heat for some minutes to let their flavors bloom. Toast the sesame seeds as well.
  • Roughly chop part of the nuts, grind the other part and set aside.
  • In a non-stick pan, add sugar, vanilla, chocolate and butterscotch flavor and caramelize on low heat. Be careful not to burn the caramelized sugar.
  • Next, add in the ground nuts, roughly chopped nuts and stir gently until properly incorporated all under low heat.
  • Sprinkle sesame seeds evenly/ all over the mixture.
  • Brush over a little butter or oil on a clean flat surface or tray, pour the mixture on the surface and spread depending on the size and weight you want the candy to have.
  • Allow to cool down or refrigerate for as long as you like and there you have your flavorful mixed nuts and sesame seeds candy.
